An individual who laced sweets with tranquilliser and distributed them to minors at a youth camp in the area has admitted sexual offences against two boys both between nine and ten.

Jon Ruben was arrested after eight minors and one adult experienced illness at the location in July.

The elderly man, from the Nottinghamshire area, confessed to a total of 17 charges when he stood at the judicial center on recently.

However, he disputed a single sexual charge he was accused of, which was against a nine-year-old child.

The accused was held in detention before a additional proceeding on late November.

'Treat game'

The prosecutor, prosecuting, described the criminal behavior to the judicial body.

She stated his targets were disadvantaged youngsters who were attending a summer program which he ran.

The defendant conducted a "sweet game" with the children, the prosecutor explained, in which he would go into the boys' rooms when they were preparing to sleep and request they to ingest treats "rapidly".

She told the court the man had conducted this practice with the children "over an extended period", and children had previously become sick the next day.

She said Ruben had been successful in rationalizing this repeatedly as the children being "overexcited from fun", until his stepson had suspicions in recently.

The prosecutor stated further: "Recently" his stepson had suspicions about the situation, with valid cause.

"They chose" to have a look in the individual's items."

The legal counsel said objects including infant oil, petroleum jelly and injection devices were found, and his family member notified the authorities about his concerns.

She stated the defendant proceeded to conduct the "treat game" with six boys that night - Saturday 26 July - and they were all ill the subsequent day.

"Law enforcement" had not gone out by that point," she added.

The oversight body, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, previously told that it was investigating the police response of the incident.

The prosecutor stated the children were having difficulty walking due to their sickness, so the stepson called the authorities a second time.

She stated Ruben then engaged in the "candy game" in a space of five children.
